Celebrating Three Years
LAC was founded in the Fall of 2019. We first began in Ward 5 partnering with the ANC Commissioner Ms. Nancy Jones. We partnered together and produced a block party for the neighbors in the Edgewood section of northeast D.C. The fire department and 5th District Police joined us for a day of food, music, performances and community.
Also, in 2019, we began working with Family Life Community Center helping with events and volunteering at the community center. We also began showcasing musical and comedic talent from the DMV area. During the Thanksgiving holiday, we helped FLCC hand out over 10,000 turkeys to DC residents in Ward 5.
In the first quarter of the 2020, we were shut down due to the COVID pandemic. We just began to brand ourselves to our targeted audience and the community at large. We planned a big online event titled Art Sets Your Imagination Free with a diverse group of artists. In such a divisive time in our society, we set out to bring people together from different backgrounds to celebrate art and each other, ultimately giving back to the communities that have made us who we are. We showcased artists from the fashion, painting, music, poetry, and film crafts. We ended the year with a successful live streamed artist showcase fundraiser.
Leadership and art Coalition is gearing up to bringing in the New Year building our membership and helping more youth and their communities. We want to provide a safe environment where celebrating art and creativity thrives.
